What we see all over Instagram is celebs and bloggers wearing expensive brands and having different outfits every day (trend-following), but is it a must? Of course you can do it if you are a millionaire, but if you are a stay-at-home mama like me, you’ll probably go for budget-savy classic items which will work hard for you all year long!
I used to spend a whole lot on my daily outfits (I seldom wear an outfit twice lol), but after giving birth to Eli and hitting that 30 mark, I was adamant that something has to be changed. (Because my money could be better used on Eli or spend it on travelling maybe?!) Don’t get me wrong, I still like a different outfit every day, but by mixing and matching the items, and finding cheaper options on the market and then doing my magic on it, I find I can still look fabulous without breaking the bank.
So here are my 5 tips in how to make an outfit look expensive! And some outfit ideas from the market right now!!
Accessorize, Accessorize and Accesorize! You may have heard less is more but ultimately, it’s also accessories that would change a whole outfit! My favourite accessories to elevate an outfit are: i, Earrings/ jewellery ; ii, Hats, iii, Headbands.
i, Earrings/ Jewellery
Love a good pair of earrings as they’ll elongate your neck and makes your outfit look a thousand times more expensive than it is! I like to go out with sparkly earrings/pearls depending on my mood of the day.
Depending on what I wear for the day, the jewellery I like to wear are rings predominantly as they are more versatile and won’t overpower the outfit. I love the brand Gemporia where they only do natural stones and gems. Most importantly, their prices are normally one half of those you find at the jewellery stores.
I love wearing hats, especially during summer time when I go outdoors with Eli very often. Hats help me stay cool under the sun whilst looking cool! (pun not intended :P)
I love wearing my hair up or down depending on the mood and my hair quality ! Headbands work well either way, even on bad hair days! Plus, it’s super trendy with padded headbands this summer 2019!
2, Wearing a one-toned outfit
Wearing a one-toned outfit elongates your body and makes an outfit looks super expensive ! It can be in any colour, and it’s suitable for a variety of occasions, such as work, wedding as it makes the whole look feels more formal and put together.
3, Use different fabric combinations
I’ve used this old trick a thousand times before and it works like a charm every time! Try mixing in different fabrics in one outfit and see if it has make it more expensive? I love wearing fabrics like Silk/Satin, Velvet, fur/faux fur, leather, linen, cotton, wool……and so on.
For example, you can mix your leather trousers with your wool jumper; or perhaps it’s a silk shirt with a fur coat. What you do is mixing and matching with clothes in your existing wardrobe, but the result is creating some brand new outfits that will definitely turn some heads around! Hashtag expensive !!
4, Carry a small bag
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but outfits with teeny tiny bags look so much more expensive than paired with some large bags! I don’t know the logic behind this but one reason I like to carry a small bag is because I need my hands free to help with my son’s needs!
5, Put on some chunky sunglasses!
Last but not least, put on some chunky sunglasses! All celebs use this trick, you never saw them without one! Other than for the purposes of hiding behind the paparazzi, throwing on a pair of sunglasses really does have that expensive effect on an outfit!
All in all, although sometimes brand names does guarantee you with product quality, with my above tips, you don’t need to buy brand names to look expensive at all. You can look fab without spending a fortune! Try these and let me know if it works for you by commenting below. Don’t forget to share with your friends if you find these helpful!
Have a great week looking fabulous!
